October 21st 2009 saw the long awaited return of London's most prolific luxury nightclub further to the closure of the original Air Street premises due to redevelopment. Moving away from Soho and embracing the elegance of Fitzrovia, Chinawhite returned to great acclaim. Long considered a pioneer in its field, Chinawhite combines its formidable heritage with a brand new distinct, progressive and modern approach.
Inspired by London's earliest clubs dating back to the 1920's that entertained 'outsiders and misfits' the club is now located in a grade II listed building on Winsley Street, Fitzrovia, an area which in its day was regarded as the centre of artistic importance and home to literary royalty such as George Bernard Shaw, who frequented the infamous Fitzroy Tavern. The UFO Club was home to Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix played at Speakeasy and Bob Dylan debuted at the King and Queen pub, all of which creates the fabric of the area's past. Likewise, the new Chinawhite guest is not defined by wealth but by a desire to exist outside of the ordinary. |

Once through the doors, guests are enveloped in modern day oriental opulence. The club's configuration offers distinct changes in mood and tempo. The ground floor restaurant boasts a ceiling of abstract clouds, Chinese hand painted wallpaper, Balinese carved friezes and paintings by Hong Kong artist Nigel Szeto famed for his contemporary pieces that re-work traditional art-forms. The Temple bar with its luxurious Missoni cushions and interchanging wall lights offers a space to relax. The main room houses the dance floor and main bar and is realised in a decadent mix of materials. A warm, varied hardwood floor links the areas seamlessly and the space is surrounded by walls that echo old and new China - a Cole and Son wallpapered oriental landscape sits comfortably alongside a glass bar featuring a traditional Chinese poem celebrating life.
The restaurant serves a modern twist on classic Asian dishes such as Kung Pao chicken, sashimi tuna, blackened halibut, griddled watermelon and toasted ricotta salad as well as grilled foie gras with langoustine. The menu has been designed by chef Adam Penney who has been cooking in London's gastro-pubs and fine dining restaurants for 14 years, notably the award-winning Horseshoe in Hampstead, Bibendum and The Lonsdale in Notting Hill.
